Emily Howard, MA, INHC, AMFT.

A safe, non-judgmental space in which to explore, understand, and practice being yourself.

Hi. I’m Emily.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from State University of New York, Purchase, a Masters in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and an Integrative Health Counseling certificate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I am registered with Psychology Today

I’ve owned my own hair salon for more than a decade, where I offer private appointments for women dealing with hair loss.

My Approach to Psychotherapy
I approach therapy as a collaborative process—starting with honoring the courage it takes to seek change. Together, we will identify and work towards short- and long-term goals at a pace that feels useful and comfortable.

I work within a flexible framework unique to each client’s personality and needs. Most of our work involves exploration in the form of conversation, and exploration of the individual parts of you that make up your whole Self. My role is part guide and part affirming, non-judgmental witness. My goal is help you understand the source of your feelings, and equip you with the tools to participate fully in the life you want.

The office is located in the Flood Building, 870 Market Street, San Francisco.

I post resources related to mental health, body image, and general wellbeing on Facebook and on Pinterest.

Depression & Anxiety
I help people whose feelings of sadness and worry are sometimes overwhelming.
We work on getting to a place where these feelings no longer hijack you from your everyday life.

I help people explore and discover the source of their anger.
We work on skills to help you place it appropriately in your life.

Social Justice
I help people who feel a sense of helplessness in the face of injustices.
We work on coming to terms with these inequities.

Visible & Non-visible Disability
I help people who feel alienated because of a physical, cognitive, or other disability.

 Body Image
I help people who are dissatisfied with their relationship to their physical self.
We work on achieving the changes that are possible, and learning to love and celebrate individuality.
I have a particular focus on helping women dealing with hair loss, including private appointments at my salon, Moxie Parlour.

Young Adults
I help teens and young adults face the complexities and pressures of their physical and emotional environments. We focus on emotional regulation, self-expression, and communication.

Gender & Sexuality
I help people who have an unsettled relationship to their gender identity and/or sexuality.
We work on self-awareness, acceptance, and wholeness.

Feelings of Otherness
